The Power of Collective Action: Collaboration for Im/migrant Inclusion

Over the course of the 2023/2024 year, we established larger community connection events held in partnership with over 50 local service providers, residents, and leaders. These events connected over 1000 im/migrants to information, resources, and opportunities in the community.

In-person events are crucial for im/migrants as they provide opportunities for direct interaction, helping to build essential social and professional networks. These events also offer a sense of community and belonging, enabling im/migrants to better integrate and navigate their new environment.

Here’s a look at how some of our recent collaborations have made a significant impact in our community:

  1. North Shore Newcomer Health Fair: We celebrated the inaugural North Shore Newcomer Health Fair which welcomed over 80 im/migrants. With representatives from organizations such as BC Cancer Screening, Health Canada, and Vancouver Coastal Health, the Health Fair provided critical information about healthcare services, promoted healthy living, and offered healthcare providers a chance to engage with im/migrants and better understand their healthcare needs.

  1. Employer Job Fair and Networking Events: We proudly hosted our second annual job fair and two employer networking events that featured representatives from North Shore employers, including RBC, Bayshore Home Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, and Starbucks. These events bridged the gap between im/migrant job seekers and the local labour market by offering an essential platform for 900+ im/migrants to build their professional networks, learn about various sectors, and engage directly with employers.

  1. North Shore Volunteer Fair: The North Shore Im/migrant Inclusion Partnership (NSIIP), hosted the North Shore Volunteer Fair in partnership with North Shore Community Resources, MONOVA, North Vancouver District Library, and West Vancouver Library. This event brought together a diverse audience of 200+ people, including seniors, im/migrants, teens, and community members to explore the benefits of volunteering, to connect with over 25 local organizations with meaningful volunteer roles, and to build valuable networks, all while contributing to the community’s well-being.

Through these collaborative initiatives, Impact North Shore continues to increase awareness of the importance of community connection and engagement. As we move forward, we remain committed to fostering partnerships that drive positive change and support the diverse needs of our growing community.
