Nilofar’s family has accessed a range of services through Impact North Shore, each helping them navigate different stages of their settlement journey. For Nilofar, her grandmother’s experience was a powerful source of inspiration and ultimately led her to participate in the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) program.
Niloofar’s grandmother completed Impact North Shore’s Self-Employment Program, then she successfully started her own daycare business. “My grandmother inspired me to believe in myself. My grandmother taught me to be strong and keep learning and never give up.”
Inspired by her grandmother’s determination and success, Nilofar began looking for opportunities to start her own career in Canada. Through the 15-week YESS program, she developed valuable workplace skills, gained professional experience, and explored what it is like to work within the community through a hands-on work placement.
“The YESS Program helped me to gain experience and grow professionally and showed me that I’m capable of achieving my goals.”
When Nilofar graduated from the program, she was surrounded by her family. Her mother, sister, grandmother, and grandfather were all there to celebrate her achievement, making the occasion especially meaningful and emotional.
“Their support reminded me that I’m not facing challenges alone and motivated me to continue working towards my goals. My entire family felt welcomed and respected at Impact North Shore.”
For Nilofar and her family, access to settlement and employment supports not only helped them achieve individual goals but also strengthened their confidence and connection as a family.
